In April, the Coming Out Museum (COME) made its mark by participating in various professional and thematic meetings.
Invited by Professor Anne Catalani from the University of Lincoln, Manchester (UK), as part of the Critical Heritage and Place Consumption series, Jan Franjul and Mario Buletić delivered a lecture and presented all phases of the COME project’s development. The lecture titled Beyond Representation: COME – Creating an Inclusive Museum Experience for the LGBTIQ+ was held online on April 16, attended by a significant number of students, PhD researchers, and regular professors from the University of Lincoln.
A week later, at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology of the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, as part of the Gender Equality Days, a round table titled LGBTIQ+ Heritage and Museums took place. Participating in the discussion were Corinne Brenko (curator, City Museum of Ljubljana), Suzana Tratnik (writer, translator, publicist, literary mentor, and lesbian activist), as well as Mario Buletić and Jan Franjul as authors and leaders of the COME initiative. The event was organized and moderated by Urša Valič from the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.
The association Domino was responsible for organizing the round table Mapping LGBTIQ+ History on the topic of mapping practices of LGBTIQ+ history and collaboration between institutions and the independent sector. The event took place on April 24, 2024, at the Museum of the City of Zagreb in Zagreb. The round table guests included: Tihana Bertek, editor-in-chief of the portal VoxFeminae and worker at the association Prostor for Gender and Media Culture K-zona, Stuart Frost, one of the curators of the exhibition Desire, Love, Identity: Exploring LGBTQ Histories and co-leader of the project of the same name at the British Museum in London, and Mario Buletić, senior curator at the Ethnographic Museum of Istria and one of the authors of the Coming Out Museum – COME project. The discussion was moderated by Saša Tkalec, a specialist in protection with experience in the field of protecting queer heritage.
