COME Guidelines and Common Queries
How can I participate?
COME is open to all individuals within the LGBTIQ+ community, no matter where they fall on the spectrum. A home for all of us who don’t fit into the traditional heteronormative and patriarchal norms.
You can share just your coming out story or accompany it with a physical object that symbolizes a milestone in your journey towards acceptance. If you are artistically inclined, feel free to use your art as a means to shape your coming out story.
To submit a story simply fill in the form under Share your Object and Story on our website.
Will my contribution be published on the website?
Your contribution will be published after a few days, as our web administrator needs to check the stories content. We reserve the right not to publish stories that are deemed harmful, offensive or discriminatory on personal, sexual, gender-based, racial, religious, national or ethnic grounds. We also reserve the right not to publish stories that contain any form of personal data of third persons.
Will my contribution be published anonymously?
We understand that some of us in the wider LGBTIQ+ community can’t talk openly about our identity, and have to hide it in order to preserve our safety and well-being. We don’t want to bring harm to any of you in that kind of situation and that is why the decision rests with you. As a contributor you have the option to decide if you want your story and/or object to be published in our collection anonymously.
How should the story be written?
It is your coming out story, and our experience – so be honest, sad, happy or angry, but don’t be harmful, offensive or discriminatory.
We do not have restrictions regarding the language, style or length of the text. But bear in mind that you want people to read your story, and we all know that longer texts often lose the reader’s attention.
What kind of object can I donate?
We do not impose restrictions when it comes to donated objects. We invite you to share your memorabilia, keepsakes, art, collectibles, personal trinkets – all your materialized sentimental treasures that illustrate a milestone on your coming out journey. If you’re a painter, poet, photographer, musician or any other kind of artist, we welcome your creativity and believe that your art can tell your coming out story.
But please be mindful that extremely large, valuable, or fragile objects require special handling. If you have any questions, or want to discuss the object in question, don’t hesitate to contact us.
If you haven’t found an answer to your question, head to the contact page!
